random lines

Floating on water

I was with my cousins and they had asked me for a science experiment that they could do for their exhibition? I thought for some time and recollected one that I had done during my school days. Floating a needle on water.

Yes this is possible; but only if we have a bloating paper. The paper absorbs water and can slowly be made to settle down. The reason as most of us know is because of the surface tension of water.

No matter how many times you try it without paper; the experiment fails. What is the reason for this; the surface tension of water still exists be there paper be there no paper. So what is the difference that makes the experiment a success in one case and failure in other.

As I understand this the paper provides the needle time to be stationary. We need to be patient to see the result. Surface tension of water is quite a weak force but o exploit it one need s to be patient and calm. Some of the greatest forces in nature open up once we are calm and open. Well we often say science and nature cannot go hand in hand. Science is nothing but understanding of the nature.

This whole experiment taught me apart from many things two important lessons.

1. However hard we may try sometimes there is a need for external agent (I am leaving this agent unnamed because it could be guru in some case, consciousness in other and something else for somebody else)

2. The way you approach a relationship is very important (the more it is for a cause the less are the chances for it being successful; in this case the surface of water and the pin are indifferent towards each other)

I will complete this post with a zen story a read shortly;

Once a Zen guru pointing towards a heavy rock, where is this in the mind our outside it?
The student says that according to Buddhism “everything is a projection of the mind. So it is in the mind.”
The Zenmaster replied aren’t you tired of carrying this load?

Rain Drop

Just loved the wordings by Kabir; could not wait to share the same

Translated verbatim into English the doha goes something like this

“ Boond padi jo samudra main , tahi jane sab koi;
Samudra samana boond main , wirla bhooje koi”

How many of realize the ocean in the rain drop. We go on searching for the ocean but never realize the same in the droplet of water. We like to look at things that are huge not in character. A rain drop has the same character as the ocean but how often do we realize this? Maybe, its time to change the outlook. Let’s look deeper and realize bigger things.

Autumn

When it is Autumn and it rains; quite a few of the leaves from the deciduous trees drop. There is no pain felt by the tree. It was ready for it. It is when a green leaf falls that the tree feels the pain; may be even the leaf feels the pain. This cycle of nature just tells that things happen when you are mature the time is right so that no one feels the pain.
Lets learn from the nature, everything will happen when time is right and when everyone is ready for it. Don’t get impatient; don’t take a hasty step; things will get sorted out for you. I definitely believe they do and what’s best for you happens :)

Don’t infer too much

This is a very interesting story which fits into all the hard times that we face in life.
It starts like this, when Buddha had grown old, he shifted to the foothills of a mountain. One day he felt thirsty and Anand his follower went to fetch water from a nearby channel. Some time before a cart had crossed the channel and the water was muddy and leaves and mud all over the water. Ananda returned empty handed. He told Buddha that water was not fit to drink. Buddha asked him to go again, he again came back without water and told that he would get water from the river which was at a little far. But, Buddha sent him again, and this time when he reached the channel the mud had settled and the water was clear all the way.
Similar things happen in life, there may be times when we don’t find the water fit but if we can sit on the bank patiently or give it some more tries things will themselves sort themselves. You don’t have to put much effort. Just sit and observe and soon see the clear water rise to the top.

Leaving in Love

This one is inspired from the Hafiz’s poem I just read.
For those who are unaware about Hafiz, Hafiz was a great Persian poet and a Sufi saint with healing powers in poetry.
If I had to write about this topic, I probably would run into pages and pages and still would not be able to define it. Love is never to be defined, or may be lets put it this way love is not meant to be defined in words and if someone has put it in words it is not LOVE.
Love with no leaving is the ultimate and true love. At some point when your relationship with your beloved becomes like this, there is no more leaving:
Next time when you meet your beloved in a crowded city street or a lonely forest; there will be no “Leaving.” Your beloved will climb into your pocket, and you will just take yourself Along!
Can our love reach this stage/ passion?
Where the mind is without fear and reciprocation this might happen.

TWO

'Two' is a curious and interesting number, next only to number one. With two begins the fight to be number 1. Placed between number 1 and 3, it is start to multiplicity of things. The haves and the have nots’. Of beauty and ugliness. Of shrewdness and guilelessness. White and black. With ‘two’ comes the concept of more; more than one.
There comes the concept of relative. Relatively better, relatively lazy, relatively happy. Thus in short it brings with itself the a term called ‘comparison’. And with comparison comes unhappiness (because today happiness is relative).
What I have written till now is that two brings multiplicity. But the way it brings multiplicity is by the order of words which we use with it. Two by itself does not intend to be bad. It is the way we look at it. White OR Black. Good OR Bad. Happy OR Unhappy. It is the ‘OR’ that has made the difference.
Black AND White, Good AND Bad, together make up the universe. It is just the way we look at things. Look at things in totality, do not split things up. The way you look at look at things will make up all the difference in the state of your mind. You can either decide to be happy OR Sad, or be indifferent thereby being Happy AND Sad all time; the feeling of everything in nothingness.

POINT

Yesterday just when I was about to sleep memories of class 12 physics book flashed in my mind and I was reminded of ray optics. I was thinking of converging and diverging rays. Suddenly I got stuck to something that was common to both the converging rays and the diverging rays; yes I am talking about the POINT.

The same point can be a source of light and the same point can be the point of illumination. Next I started wondering about the implications of this concept in our everyday life. I came up with the following three before falling asleep…

1. The mistake that we commit today is the point of illumination and is visible to everyone; but sometime later the same point will become the source of illumination guiding us and many others. After all light is for everyone.

2. The point is the same but the way in which it is perceived changes. You may be perceived right one time and wrong the next time. You can be the point of interference or point of divergence. It is all perception.

3. There is no Point in the POINT. The point itself is round.

Now that I have realized there is no point in any point, what is the point in talking about the point? Instead let’s talk about light ….

Good things do propagate

On Friday I was coming back from office with a colleague of mine and I was sitting behind her on a two wheeler. We were on a signal and since it was around 60 sec for the red light to turn green I asked her to switch off the engine. She did, and what happens next is what I had not expected. The three bikes standing around us switched their engines too and we were all looking at each other.

It was a great feeling that I had, I realized that people are not ignorant and its not that they do not realize it is just that we are a little lazy and careless. The moment somebody tells us or shows us a path, we quickly follow. I definitely believe that good word spreads and people do respond to something. Let us all come together and do our bit in whatever we can to benefit the entire human race.

Come, let us do our bit!
